Hey all. I'm a senior in high school that has grown up with phantom. last year at an annual benefit concert i had the chance to finally assume my dream role, and perform music of the night. I am auditioning with a friend of mine to do the title song this year, and would like some feedback and suggestions on my costume.
keep in mind, i had no money to spend on this. i put it together using clothing i already had, and the jacket that i borrowed from the school theatre department. i would like to get a better vest or waistcoat, as the only one i own is very modern.
here are a few pictures i took. the jacket goes down to about my mid thigh, and i'm 6'2". i wear standard dress pants and shoes with it. also, the mask is very iffy. i had to alter the basic one you can buy anywhere because the nose was preventing me from singing.
let me know what you all think, thanks!

forgot to ask, does anyone know where i can get a better mask, something closer to the movie's version? the mask i have tends to get crooked as i sing, and i think that the movie styled one would solve that issue. |

Honestly, it looks great. Well, that's coming from the standpoint of someone who hasn't seen it in a while! But here's my reasoning.
If it's a benefit concert for a public audience, and not a bunch of phantom costume fanatics, chances are no one will really notice or rip you apart for your outfit not being totally accurate.
Are you going for movie phantom or musical phantom?
If you wanted to improve - I think if anything you could find a real "cravat" or make one. And a new vest, if you can get your hands on one, is a definite yes. Or maybe even a coat with tails.
In general - it's looking good. Guys costumes always seemed easier than girls... |

yeah, i suppose you got a point about the audience. i'm kind of going for a mix between musical and movie, but yeah, im gonna go look for a vest as soon as i can. and i bet i could talk our costumer into making me a cravat.
as far as the coat with tails, i could see if i could use the one i just wore for our last play. however, it doesn't seem very erik like. a little too modern i think.
and believe me, i hear you about the girls costume thing. i had to find a costume for my very talented christine, and that was hell. we went up to the costume loft and looked for an hour until finding a dress that looked somewhat like the nightgown, but, not really :P. again, i dont think the audience will care that much. |
