App. two years ago I got a couple of metres of a very nice stripy fabric; yellow and white with a floral pattern. Showing here:

I have a few ideas of what to use it for, but before I tell you about my ideas, I thought you guys might make some suggestions? I'm open for anything between 1400 and 1900. phantomsmile Picture references would be great.

Why is it that every striped/floral pattern I see reminds me of that darn wishing gown??!!!

That's it - I've already lost my sanity...

For some reason, I see a polonaise of some sort, with a white underskirt. But I don't know how attractive that would be. I'll look up some pictures. phantomwink

Well, that was my idea as well. The Kyoto costume museum has a gorgeous version made of a a very similar yellow/floral stripy fabric., and that's been a temptation all along. The question is: do I have enough for a full saque gown? If I remember correctly, the Kyoto dress is trimmed with the same fabric as in the dress. I don't have to make it a 100% identical, but I would prefer to.

Phantomess... Hahaha, that was my second idea! I thought that if I dyed it blue, it might be the perfect fabric for a Wishing gown. but... do I really need another one? No. Do I want to dye that many metres of fabric? No. Not really.... But yes, it does remind me of it.

Speaking of which, I watched the whole Forsyte saga about a week ago, and their "Wishing dress" (the dress made of that blue fabric) is really beautiful. I don't fancy the front all that much (too plain looking), but the back is droolable. phantomsmile

Speaking of which....Maybve you could do a simplified version of the Dangerous Liaisons gown made in the wishing gown fabric? It wouldn't be indentical, but still a nice looking dress.

But again, would you have enough yardage (or...um, meterage?)?

Ha ha, we all think the same. First I thought "wishing gown", then Dangerous Liasons gown, then 18c gown...

Have you thought of this?

http://www.costumersguide.com/ma13.shtml

A friend of mine made hers with a likely fabric to yours:

(all German, but I guess the pictures say it all...)
Here's the dress diary, again, just in German, but again, with many pictures. Just scroll down and jump from page to page...

As the pattern of your fabric is much likely to some of the fabrics that were used in Rococo, I'd suggest something from that period... Of course it would depend on how much you have of it. A Robe à la Francaise - called the 'Saque' by many people here - would require about 8 Meters of fabric (given that it's 140cm wide), an Anglaise would require about six meters. A Caraco would require about 2.5 - 3 meters.

Yes! I didn't even think of a MA dress!!!! They're all so pretty, really, but that looks like one of the ones requiring less yardage. How much do you have exactly?

To be honest, I'm not totally crazy about those MA costumes.... phantomsad The idea is great, and the costume replica lovely. But I think I'll go with the Kyoto Costume Institute one. I studied the photos in the book yesterday, and the fabric is really well suited. I think I have enough fabric as well! :D

Thanks for the feedback and ideas anyhow! It's easy to be too narrow minded when it comes to one's own projects, so sometimes it's just good to get a different view on things.

Hehehe, glad it's not only me...... I see Wishing dress materials everywhere! Owners of stripy blue curtains, beware...... phantomcheesy

I think I'll go for the Kyoto sack gown. It's a nice item! I just have to dig up the pattern from Jean Hunnisett's book "Costumes from stage and screen". Anyone who have that pattern online? I used it for my Toile dress, and it was easy to work with.

*mouth drops* You always find the prettiest fabric. I was thinking a costume from "Pride and Prejudice." There's something about the fabric that's very lay backed and calm, and delicate. Pride and Prejudice has all of the soft, pastel colors in their dresses. That's probably what I'd do with it.

just recently I was watching The Scarlet Pimpernel, with Anthony Andrews and Jane Seymour and I found that this little boy wears a jacket with very similar fabric
